The Aftermath In Soho After The Riots.

Eye-opener for my kids today as we walked the streets of New York after yesterday’s riots. The remnants of what was left of a burning police car and shattered glass from broken windows was a scary sight to see. I’m well aware as to why this has happened but I’m praying for more peaceful protests in the future without the violence. Our hearts are hurting for the death of George Floyd but we should act rational and quell our behavior with peace.
These experiences are teaching my two youngest kids to be more braver and stronger and to use their voice in defending not only their black friends, but their heritage as well. My kids are mixed and come from various background lineages. Time to time people will ask them what nationality they are and for the most part they are complemented for who they are.
Soho looked like a war zone as we walked through the cobblestone streets. It looked so different compared to a couple of weeks ago when we captured it in it's unique beauty. Empty and quiet. I took a few photos of the aftermath from yesterdays riots and it was so disturbing. Grateful that I took my kids to show them what happens when justice isn't served right away after one kills someone due to police brutality. Especially when they are a black American.
Luckily fifth avenue wasn't damaged, but stores like Cartier were boarded. These riots are hitting too close to home (we had some in Philly & Trenton over the weekend) and while we are still dealing with covid19 we should be uniting not fighting. Covid has already killed enough people. Let's not add more destruction during this pandemic.

Praying for Peace. Praying for Change. Praying for a future that will better for our children, and their posterity.
