Scenes of An Empty NYC In The Midst Of A Pandemic.

Although we don't live in New York I was curious to see how the city has been doing, so for the past month we've been venturing out to see how empty it has been with everyone sheltering in place. And it was surreal. So surreal to see this epic city on pause. To see some of my favorite spots shut down. To not have people hustling and brushing next to me on the sidewalk. I felt so much sorrow and my heart was hurting for this city that has once been known to never sleep. I even documented its emptiness on my TikTok. Yes, I caved and I blame it on the pandemic for having created one!

Lately a few streets have re-opened specifically for New Yorkers to get out and walk around. No cars are allowed to drive on them. With the weather becoming warmer more and more people have been coming out. Some wear masks, some don't. I do want to make it known that when we go to the city we wear our masks, and keep our distance with an abundance of caution. We don't linger in one place for too long. If we find ourselves in a spot where I want to capture a moment with my camera we take off our maskfor the picture and then put it back on!

It's been nice being able to go to the city I love so much and to somewhat have it all to ourselves. However, I do miss the thriving energy it gives off. Since we don't have a backyard at our house New York has literally become our go to place for the past 10 years! Still, it feels different when we come here. Wondering how it will be once she wakes up again and when it will be completely safe and sound to roam the streets without wearing a mask like we did before this pandemic began. I'm sure it'll be different in many ways, but I know that New York is a survivor and that she will re-emerge even stronger.

Here are a few places where we've gone where we've either seen one person or no one in sight! It's crazy eerie, but nothing, not even a pandemic can keep us away from the city we all love!
Soho is one of our favorite spots in the city. There is always a new exhibit up where one rents an empty loft to display. It's the coolest and we absolutely miss walking the high line as well as eating inside at some of our favorite restaurants. You can view a video of the empty streets of Soho here.

The Financial District has so many iconic places to go and sculptures and statues to photograph. Here stands the charging bull all by its lonesome.
The Fearless Girl statue on Stone street in the Financial District.
Wall Street.
The Group of Four Trees Sculpture has been around since the 70's and here is Noah on a different day scooting around the plaza.
The Oculus at the World Trade Center was pretty empty except for a couple of commuters inside.
Outside the Oculus on a rainy day. You can view a video of it inside here, and outside the oculus here.

The Seaglass Carousel at Battery Park will definitely be missed this summer. This is our go to place in the spring and all summer long. We just love it and it sits all alone without a soul in sight and no one to ride the fishies. You an view a video of  an empty battery park here.
It was surreal to see Bryant Park empty too. There was a lady sitting at one of the tables but other than that you can see the field complete empty! You can also see a video of that here on my tiktok
And last but not least, the Rockefeller Center. This was one of the first places we went to in late April and it was surreal seeing it empty without tourists! I can't even imagine it being empty during the holidays with all the iconic events that happen during the Christmas season! You can view my video of an empty Rockefeller center here
Park Avenue tulips! Love, love the season of spring and all that it brings even in the midst of a pandemic. Here's hoping for better days ahead in ways that will make us an even better person once this is all over.
