Strawberry Picking!

Summer is just around the corner which means that farms are opening up and the time to go picking is upon us. My friend Sandy and I woke up early last Thursday and were among the first to go strawberry picking. And let me tell you after days of rain picking strawberries was the perfect time. Although the field was wet and a bit muddy we were lucky to have had an area where all the strawberries were vibrant, juicy and huge! We picked a ton and later that evening Sandy made strawberry shortcakes for the gathering we were having and it was delicious! I'm so happy she invited me because I sure miss going picking with my kids. All my girls are adults now and Noah is almost 16 and most likely he will come if I ask him but he's not a huge fan of strawberries anymore. He loves apple picking in the fall but when it comes to summer picking he'd rather go to the beach! 

Strawberry Picking At Fishkill Farms!

As it got closer to summer the kids and I were talking about how much we would miss picking fruit at the farm due to the pandemic, but when we heard that Fishkill farms was open to go strawberry picking by reservation only you better believe that I quickly picked up my phone to book an appointment. It was weird to be paying online and making an appointment just to go picking. There wasn't too many people as they limited it by appointment so were lucky to have had a few rows to ourselves to pick. This definitely was social distancing at its best! And boy did the kids go to town picking! Chelsea was our main picker as Noah was whining a bit due to it being so hot. I know wearing a mask wasn't comfortable in the hot weather but luckily there weren't too many people so we slid them down our face for awhile. Noah then began picking more, and we left with a ton of strawberries!!

Strawberry Picking!

Strawberry picking has been such a fun experience with kids and no matter how old they get I don't think they'll ever outgrow it. Picking season is our favorite and once the sun shines bright with temps in the 80's with no humidity makes the perfect time to go to a farm and go picking! It's a tradition that keeps on going! We tend to go to different farms to pick, and this was the first time picking strawberries at Alstede farms. 

Strawberry Picking At Highland Orchards!

Although the time for picking strawberries is dwindling down we still managed to go picking, and yesterday we drove to Highland Orchards where most of their strawberries weren't over picked! We were lucky to have filled one little basket full of strawberries. Most of them were super ripe so we didn't pick too much. One basket was enough and we left with smiles on our faces. 

Strawberry Picking & A Little Video!

Strawberry picking has indeed become one our favorite traditions in the summertime! As soon as they're in season the kids and I will go to one of our favorite orchards and go to town picking! This year we practically had the whole orchard to ourselves!! It was so nice capturing moments without extra bodies in the background. This was also Lexie's first time pickin strawberries with us as she has always had a commitment when we'd go. This year she was determined to finally pick strawberries with us, and she had fun picking with her sibs.

Lexie found it very relaxing, and recalled going cherry picking with us for the first time last year! She was like, "yeah...I'm coming strawberry picking with you guys because y'all always do fun things without me!"

She helped Noah pick some pretty good ones while Chelsea and I picked some on our own. Such a beautiful day that we could have spent the entire afternoon here! I even made a little video in which you can view here. 

The kids did a good job in picking. Lexie was like the energizer bunny. She wanted to pick more because she loves her smoothies. There's nothing like a homemade smoothie with fresh strawberries! 

The best part of going to this orchard is the fact that they have a playground where the kids can let out all their wiggles after some serious picking! 

We absolutely love summertime, and all the fun things that come with it especially when it comes to the outdoors. Being outside is our favorite place to be when it comes to summer, and we look forward for more adventures!
