Ranking Up In Scouts!

Working on your eagle is a lot of work and I have seen it firsthand with my son. I feel that if you don’t get things done right away you’re going to get behind and the years fly by so fast that before you know it you either get your eagle or it’s too late. Well, I would hate for my son to be the latter, so luckily Noah has found a way to get ahead and without being rushed and without feeling the need that he’s got to do this because it’s got to be done as opposed to doing it because his dad is an Eagle Scout.

Another Summer, Another Scout Camp.

Another scout camp has come and gone and I'm so glad Noah is home! After being gone for a whole week he always returns older and somewhat different and in a damn good way! I don't know why this one hit me so hard when he left a week ago. I have learned that as I get older each day is different. Every year is different; and we change. Every moment of every day counts. Which is why I take advantage of every waking moment with my family. Noah is my only boy and last kid and I see him changing and growing every single day. I see it and it pains me at times. This is the only thing I dislike about motherhood is the constant grief and how he's constantly changing. The fact that I'll never get those days back is a bit heartbreaking. And the fear of how much my heart will hurt once he's all grown up and left the house. But I have a long ways from that! It's bittersweet but at the same time it's interesting to watch him grow up and change. And I'm grateful that being in Boy Scouts is allowing him to do that. He is constantly learning and developing new skills. I love that he enjoys it and wants to learn more. That he always looks forward to the meetings, weekend camp outs and of course scout camp every summer. He makes me proud and Jon always gets excited when he has passed something that he's learned. Being an Eagle Scout is a big deal and Jon will always be grateful for earning his eagle; and our hope is that Noah will earn his before he's 18 too!

So glad all our scouts home safe!

Remembering Our Fallen Soldiers At St. Mary's Cemetery.

"Let their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored." -Daniel Webster

Love this scouting tradition of Noah and his troop gathering at St. Mary's cemetery to place flags. They do this every Memorial weekend and yesterday was Noah's second year volunteering to do this. He has grown up and has truly developed an appreciation for our fallen soldiers. Yesterday he and his troop placed flags at St. Mary's cemetery to honor those who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It' a beautiful way to remember them and a great way to express our gratitude. I hope we can take the time to remember our loved ones this weekend! So proud of our Boy Scout!

Off To Scout Camp!

Another year, another scout camp. How the heck did this happen! Noah left for scouts last weekend and he'll be returning home tomorrow. I can't believe how quickly time flies. It truly does as your last child grows older. I also believe time flies when the world changes and there is a lot going on in the world right now. But looking at all the positive things in life such as our boy being motivated and eager to go to camp to learn life skills and have fun with his peers truly brings us light. He's such a sweet and happy kid! He is growing up way too fast. More than I'd like but it's okay. I have missed him but I'm also glad I didn't get any phone calls from camp which means no homesickness like he was last year. No news is great news and that means he is doing well! Looking forward to his return!

Noah's First Scout Camp!

Time has certainly flown by these past few years especially for Noah. He had his very first scout camp trip last month and I am so proud of him for enduring the entire week while developing a bit of homesickness! I knew something like this would happen but he had a great time and by the time Thursday came around he was better and had a great time being around the kids his age learning new skills. Merit badges are the absolute best to gain but he didn't come home with any and that's okay. He's only 11 and next year he will learn more and become a better swimmer and hopefully bring home some badges! I can't believe my boy is almost as tall as I am! I will always remember the very first time he became a Cub Scout. And now he's a Boy Scout! Seriously though, where has the time gone?

Officially a Boy Scout!

Noah had his arrow of light ceremony late last month and and now he is officially a Boy Scout! I'll always remember the first time he started to go to cub scouts at the tender age of eight. And now he's 11 and moving toward doing hard things. We are so proud of him! He's growing up so fast and learned so much the past four years in cub scouts. He is excited o be joining a new troop, meet new friends and go on bigger adventures and learn so much more. He is definitley following in his dad's footsteps and leaning toward bigger things. So happy for our Noah. He has so much to learn in the next few years. One thing for sure is that he will be taking his time in learning as he is progressing in scouts. No need to rush getting his eagle at 13 or 14! Although that could happen! We shall see....

Pinewood Derby 2020.

Life as a webelo in scouts has been great for Noah this year. He has accomplished so much with his den and continues to enjoy learning new things, and becoming the best little scout he can be. Today they had their pinewood derby and each year Noah becomes more independent with the way he wants to design his car. He chose blue and black for the colors and even named it the "Blue Blaze." He is proud of his little car and it even won twice today! He brought home a trophy and Noah was so happy about that. I was excited for him but always remind him that it's not about the "trophy" but how he felt during the time of the derby. He was having fun with his fellow scouts, and throughout all the chanting and cheering he was enjoying every minute. And that is what should count as a Boy Scout!

Pinewood Derby '19

Yesterday was Noah's second year at the pinewood derby, and it was absolutely amazing! I was overwhelmed at all the scouts that attended. There were at least 80 scouts in the pack! I am used to having about 30 in a pack before our ward in our church decided to disband it, but this pack was huge! The Webelos alone in this pack had 30 of their own scouts. These scoutmasters are passionate in scouting, and I couldn't have picked a better troop for Noah to be in. He learns, has fun, and has friends in the pack that he's known since first grade. It was so exciting to see so many boys and girls cheering each other on as their cars were racing against each other.

For The Scouting Program.

We are now in our second year of scouting and Noah is now a "bear." I will always remember the first time he started as a wolf, and in the past year have seen so much growth and change in him. His relationships with people are so unique. He is the sweetest, most helpful little boy you will ever meet. He loves going to scouts to learn new things as well as meeting up with his friends in working together as a den and pack. I am so thankful for the scouting program, and for what it teaches our kids. It truly shapes our children for them to become better people, and truly brings a special bond in our family as well as in our community. You can see a snippet of his recent activity with scouts learning all about forensics on my Insta stories here.

Noah's First Pinewood Derby!

Last night Noah, and I got to experience our first pinewood derby event ever, and it was pretty cool. The fact that we literally only had two weeks to assemble the kit, design, sand, saw, drill, and paint didn't overwhelm us in any way. Just kidding!! Luckily I have a patient husband, and a boy who took his time in preparing his car. His little "hot rod" didn't place this year, but the main take away from this event was that Noah had fun!

Noah Earns His Wolf Badge!

Since joining cub scouts five months ago Noah has worked hard on completing all the requirements needed to earn his Wolf badge, and last night during the Blue and Gold banquet he received it! Some of these requirements required little effort which was pretty easy for him to achieve, but at the same time make sure that as he is completing them that he also understands as to why he is doing them.

Noah's A Cub Scout!

When I wrote this post five years ago I didn't think that we'd end up at this point that quickly. It's moments like this where time flees too fast, and now our son is a Cub Scout! Writing about my Cub Scout is a big deal for me because a) he's my only son b) I didn't grow up with my brother so I have no idea what it takes to be a scout, and c) because I'm a mom, and as a woman am eager to learn with my son as he grows, and excels as a Boy Scout.
