There are times when I give Noah time to play on the computer. Sometimes he'll practice on his math skills which is my favorite, and because of that I'll reward him with internet time to play games. I'm not a big fan of the internet except to blog, and catch up on current events that are going on in the world, but for the most part I'm an old school momma who handwrites letters, and still owns, and watches DVD's!
Although social media is nice, and an easy way to communicate with friends and family I really prefer the whole calling, and snail mail thing. The world is changing every day, and realized that as long as I monitor my kids usage on the internet, discuss the dangers of the internet, and am aware of the sites they go on then they'll be okay.
I'm also not a fan of toddlers on smartphones, let alone my eight year old spending time on the phone, or on the net, but then again kids in school today are using chrome books at a young age. They use them at school, and I learned quickly that that's the way of life these days. Noah is my digital baby, hence all the blogging, and less scrapbooking, and slowly, but surely am beginning to be "okay" with that. Mostly because I have no choice, but I do when it comes to using the computer at home. He knows when time is up, and is respectful when I say so!
Noah has been on a YouTube kick lately with watching superhero videos. It's crazy to see that there are people on the net who actually have the time to make videos with action figures battling each other. Noah gets a kick out of watching those videos, and sometimes I'm not too pleased with it, but I should be happy that he's looking at sueprhero videos as opposed to trashy, inappropriate videos like pornography, or playing games that involve guns, and shooting people.
The other day Noah asked if he could borrow my phone to make a video. I asked him what kind of video he'd like to make, and he said a superhero one. I knew that because of the videos he was watching inspired him to make his own. He's loves wearing his Spiderman costume, and reading and watching marvel movies also inspired him to use his action figures to create his own little video.
I obliged, trusted him, and gave him my phone to do his thing. I told him to film it in the dining room on the table, and when he was done I viewed it, and we all thought it was the cutest thing. He was so excited when he was done that he couldn't wait to see it. He is so proud of his little video. If you'd like to see it you can watch it here on my YouTube channel. (What? Wait? Noah already got a comment on his video!)
Now this doesn't mean that he's always going to be on my phone creating these videos, and hopefully it's just a phase, and something that he wanted to do just one time, but this is exactly why I'm not too fond of the internet. Luckily I'm one of those moms who sets boundaries, and has learned to say "NO."
Noah is a good boy who minds, and knows when his time is up on the computer. I'm so grateful for his good manners, and understanding as to why being on the computer for a long time isn't good for you.
Hope you enjoy his first little YouTube video, and that it's something uplifting to you on the internet!
