Ideas On How To "Light The World."

Gifts for us have been super simple lately as they have been for the past few years. Each year gift giving for us becomes less, and less, and service becomes more and more. Although gifts are nice to give to each other and family members I love to think of those who can really use some good cheer.

People that come to mind are those children who are sick in the hospital, the homeless, our postman, ups, and Fedex delivery drivers. I know how hard these drivers work because my husband is a UPS driver. I see the joy on his face when he gets a tip, a gift card, or a goodie bag filled with trail mix, chips, and chocolate! They are on their feet all day delivering "our gifts" and I am happy to give to our neighboring delivery drivers.

There are so many people to think about.

Crossing guards at schools. These are the people who make sure our children don't get run over by a car, and that they cross the street safely. Last year Lexie gave a little hot chocolate kit to her crossing guard at high school. This lady was always so sweet, always smiling even when temps were 15 degrees! We love her, and Lexie felt so good giving it to her. She had a huge smile on her face after when she got back inside our car after giving it to her. Such joy!

Teachers. These educators make a difference in our children's lives and feel as if they are taken for granted. As long as I have kids in school they will give a special treat to their teachers, and I know they appreciate it!

There are so many ways to give, and so many people to think about which is why I'm sharing this light the world calendar from my church. It's worldwide, and anyone can do it! I love how each week has a different way lighting the world.

Week one is basically lighting the world for others by doing simple acts of service. You can donate to your favorite charity, or sacrifice a meal for someone else so they can eat.

Week two are ways to light your community such as volunteering at a food bank, helping a friend with service, shoveling your neighbors driveway or sidewalk, taking in your neighbors trash and recycling bins, inviting someone you've never had over for dinner. So many ways!

Week three is lighting your family. This one is my favorite because as much as I butt heads with my own family I sure do love them! I know that praying, and having family counsel connects us more as a family. Having individual dates with our kids, and with ourselves helps us tremendously with our relationships. Giving our children hugs, and kisses every day before they head out for school, and before they go to bed shows them that we love them, and eases their mind. Calling a loved one they haven't spoken to in a while is a good one. Writing a card to family member is always well received.. Regardless if they are bad at responding writing letters to our relatives makes me feel good!

The final week of December is lighting your faith. In my opinion regardless of what religion you are it's important to find ways that strengthen you within your soul, and the Lord. Whether it's reading your scriptures, attending the temple, and going to church. Inviting others to your church is a good way to reach out, and that gives them an opportunity to investigate or find out further more about your faith. Be better at sharing positive news on social media, and eliminating any negativity, and simple just doing our best in keeping that light in us even after the holidays!

I know that by doing these things we will feel joy, and generally be a happy person. Be confident with ourselves because we know who we are, and that by giving and doing simple acts of service on the daily will continue to help us be a joyful, and kind person for the rest of our lives. Sure there will be moments where we won't feel like holding the door for others, or letting a car go before us at a stop light, but we have a choice to be kind, and happy.

I choose joy!

Have a wonderful, beautiful month, and hope y'all will fulfill some of these tasks that will make you, and others feel special!
