These are the days I will miss once Noah graduates from elementary school! I have always volunteered at all my girls schools, but in all honesty I have spoiled myself with constant volunteering at Noah's school. This time I brought Chelsea with me to do a Thanksgiving craft with the kids, and she had such a great time experiencing working with 20 third graders for an hour. I have so much gratitude for being a room parent, and for the opportunity I have to volunteer at the school when it comes to holiday parties, craft days, picture day, book fair, back to school picnic, and various activities. It brings me such joy knowing that I am doing some good by relieving extra duties from the teachers.

Noah's Winter Party '17
Didn't Noah just have his winter party last year? Man, it feels as if it was yesterday that Noah had his winter party! Time is definitely passing us by especially when you're having fun and enjoying your kid! I have loved volunteering at Noah's school for the past year. It truly is something I love to do and missed out on when Sierra was his age. His face lights up every time I walk through his classroom door. When sees me walking through that door, he knows momma's here to help out.

Robotics Discovery Day!
When Noah came from school last month and brought home a flier that read "Enjoy a day of robotics with robot building out of legos" I couldn't help but to ask if he would be interested in going. Our school district is huge on robotics, and because Noah is into building contraptions, buildings, cars, and transformers with his legos I figured this would be something he'd like to experience, and it was!

The Fall Party.
Noah's second year in his new school has been successful, and he absolutely loves second grade. Most of all, he loves his teacher Mr. B., and I have to agree with him. So far this year has been pretty great. Last year I was so stressed when we moved, and when he enrolled he somewhat had a hard time adjusting, and because his teacher and I butt heads a lot didn't help, but by the end of the school year we ended up loving each other, and wished his first grade teacher well, and thanked her for helping him through the transition, and for forgiving me for my grumpiness and all!

Sorry Homecoming, But I Have Priorities.
When I asked Lexie when homecoming was she said she wasn't sure that she would check the date to make sure it didn't fall during women's session, or my birthday weekend. Sure enough it did, because homecoming was early this year., and I was pretty bummed for her.

Fun Day With Noah & Chelsea!
It sure was bittersweet attending my kids school yesterday to volunteer for what they call "fun day" as it will be their last one at this school. Chelsea began preschool here, and being that it was Noah's first year I'm so grateful that I was able to take part in his life as a kindergartener during the school year. I have really enjoyed chaperoning and volunteering in a lot of his activities and trips, and it's hard to believe that this school year is coming to a close, and that this fall they will both be attending different schools!
At the end of each school year all the kids have an event called "fun day" where they lay bouncy houses all over the school grounds. Each grade takes turns and have about 40 minutes to play, and bounce around in them. The weather couldn't be more perfect for it too! 85 degrees with blue skies, and sun shine all around with dry heat, and no rain folks! Sure wish all our days can be like this from now on until fall comes around!
It was Noah's first time experiencing a "fun day" with bouncy houses, and he loved every second of it. This boy has too much energy for my own good! I realized today that I don't need a gym because he's my personal gym. Running around after him, and his buddies making sure there aren't too many kids inside the bouncy houses. Sure got my exercise on this day, and I even sweated too! It was so fun to see him and his little friends gasping for breath as they were jumping, and luckily they listened to their bodies when their tummy said, "I'm thirsty." They all had water bottles, and after taking a few sips went right on back to playing, and sweating some more! I'm telling you, my kid has waaaaaaaaay too much energy. A total different energy than what any of my girls had when they were his age! Either that or i'm just getting old! Ha! Ha!
Watching Noah on this day reminded me of when Chelsea experienced her first "fun day." I wish I had days like this back when I was little kid. I didn't even have any kind of "fun day" back in my school days, and if I did I just don't remember, but if we did they sure weren't bouncy houses. Wait...were they even invented yet? Noah sure had a blast and I certainly took more photos of him than I did his sister.
Those red cheeks, and ear to ear smile is an indication that he had the time of his life. It's the little things. Even bouncy houses that make a child smile!
After the kindergartners time was up the fifth graders then came out. I saw Chelsea with her posse and immediately went up to her, and gave her a hug. I wanted to create more moments of this day with her, but then I realized that I didn't have to. I can just sit back, and observe without intervening. And then I thought again. I volunteered my time for Noah's grade, but having Chelsea come out right after them was pure luck. I wasn't planning on hanging around much longer. So I decided to say my goodbyes to her, and her friends and left. Reasons why is because I want her to have fun with her friends without me hovering around her all the time. I don't want to be one of those helicopter moms who hovers and stares and follows them everywhere. I also don't want her friends to be glaring at me as if I have five heads thinking I'm a weirdo, or saying stuff like, "why is your mom following us?" Kind of like this mom in this movie scene from New Years Eve. I want to give her personal space, and for her to enjoy herself. I want her to know that I trust her, and so upon leaving I captured a couple of photos.
Let me tell you something about this girl Ciara. She's as sweet as they come. She is someone that I wish we could take because she is such a true friend to Chelsea. Since pre-school they have been there for each other, and have a lot in common. This is one of her best friends, and Chelsea is really going to miss her.
Can't believe she's growing up. Bittersweet, but at the same time it's so fun watching her blossom into a beautiful young woman. I know that once she turns 12 next this winter that the years are going to fly, and then before you know it I'm only going to have one teenage girl left in the home to hang with! I know that as she gets older I will allow her to govern herself, but at the same I will be that mom who cares, and won't just let her do whatever she wants. This day was different because she was with her friends, and many other teachers, and parents were there to supervise, and so it was okay for me to leave!

TRANSISTIONING.
Whenever the kids receive letters, or packages in August that pretty much means that summer is quickly coming to an end. It means that it's the beginning of a new year to buy school supplies, underwear, socks, backpacks, and of course clothes. As much as I appreciate all that their grandparents do for our kids I hesitate at the thought of them opening up those parcels. That only means that it's time to make a list, prepare for school, and to slowly say goodbye to summer.
Summer is quickly winding down, and I can't even begin to fathom that school resumes in a couple of weeks. Every Target, and dollar Tree store have had school supplies on display since the beginning of July. They even have fall items on display which is understandable I guess, because before we know it we'll be craving autumn weather, and carving pumpkins!
I remember the day Noah had his kindergarten orientation, and all I can think about was how well he adjusted to taking off with the other kids, and teachers to show him around. He did well, and I was so glad! I think about him making friends, not just any friends, but the right kind. I wonder if he'll be shy with others because in our house there's no such thing, and he's anything but shy! The fact that he didn't attend preschool outside the home makes me a tad bit nervous, and I hope that he'll remember all that he was taught here in the home. It puts me at ease knowing that because i raised him in the home for the past five years that there's no need to fear.
One thing for sure is that I will finally make the time to be involved with the PTA, be a parent helper, and lose myself in service at school. The desire to keep myself busy while Noah's in school half a day will help keep me sane from the fact that I no longer have a small child at home to raise. The consensus for me, now that all my kids are in school is to continue to be a stay at home mom, but at that same be active within my community by doing volunteer work, and possibly beginning to write a memoir about my life. Not sure how that will go, but I'll be working on that from time to time. Noah will attend school half a day this year which will help me catch up on some stuff, but I know that those few hours without him will fly by! One thing for sure is that I will be easing my way into the school year because I want to take the time to familiarize myself with Noah's kindergarten, and I don't want to rush his youth. I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be, and I honestly feel the he's ready for this transition.
And so am I !

SOPHOMORES.
I hardly ever write about my two oldest girls, but since i write to remember, and to pass this on to their posterity I'll only write about the milestones they are reaching.
This fall they will both be sophomores together, but one will be in college, and the other in high school. Yikes! I'm so very proud of their accomplishments, and even their downfalls. Without opposition there would be no growth, and I'm so proud of both my girls for handling what seemed to be a challenging year for them, and I'm just so dang proud of them for passing yet another trial of faith, and another year of school.
Alexandra passed with flying colors and is now a sophomore in high school. She endured quite a bit during her freshman year, but in spite of it all managed to keep her GPA above a 3.75. Adjusting to early morning seminary, experiencing high school teachers who curse even worse than her 8th grade teachers, and dealing with typical high school drama can really take a toll on a brand new freshman. Luckily for Lexie she has a knack for getting out of her comfort zone, and enjoys meeting new people. She said if it wasn't for her honors classes, and meeting other kids from other middles schools she would have gone insane! In spite of all the drama and everything she faced she did well in keeping her composure together. She truly is laser focused and I look forward to her looking forward to her sophomore year. I told her it will be a lot better, and the reason I know is because in all honesty...my sophomore year in high school was the best year for me.
As far as Sierra goes she is phenomenal, and has finally figured out her life. I'm very grateful that even though she took a break from school (darn that waiting a whole freaking year to establish residency so she can attend school in Utah for a lot less), and after doing so has become an even more focused and is an amazing, happy, happy, happy young woman! I attest that to everything that she has endured since her high school graduation. She truly is anchored in the Gospel, and loves, loves the temple. I am so so very happy that she makes time to go since she received her temple recommend because as you know kids today, especially when living in Utah can "forget" what's important because of being busy with work, and school. It's not only in Utah, but everywhere as well. Heck even us adults can forget that the temple is there, but when i lived in Utah I never took those beautiful buildings for granted. I reminded my daughter of the blessings we received when we'd go frequently, and how much I want her to experience those blessings.
And she has.
And like her momma has developed a deep appreciation, and love for the temple.

I know I always say this, and it's probably getting old, but time is fleeting. I'm so grateful that my girls are living with true principles and that they are taking them to heart. They have an open mind, and on their own motive have developed a strong love, and firm testimony of the Lord's plan and gospel. Putting God first in all that they do, because in today's society they really need it.
We all do.
No matter what religion we are, what color, race, gender, age we all need some solace. Some foundation of goodness that brings calmness, peace, and happiness into our life.
One thing for sure is that no matter how old they get I'll never stop giving them advice. Even at the age of twenty I remind my oldest that whenever they go through a rough patch that there are ways to overcome it, and that it's only temporary. That it'll pass, and to be sincere in their prayers as they try to find an answer from God. To never give up, and that they have a choice to give up, or stand strong.
I remind them of the adage, "I never said it would be easy, I said it would be worth it."
And they will learn, and know that.
And as they continue to grow older, they will.
We all do.

SPRING ART SHOW '14.
Attending the art shows at the elementary school is something i've always looked forward to ever since we moved to Jersey. This is my seventh art show I've attended, and it just gets better and better with each passing year. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm bias, and my kids have a knack for the arts, or maybe it's because I see the talent that all these kids have with their imaginations in drawing, and creating pictures. It's pretty cool to see different types of character when it comes to art among the students, and makes me happy that the teacher(s) who help put on this show each year never grows weary of their job. They make the time to carefully organize and display such a beautiful work of art all over the school. Truly takes a lot of effort, patience, and lots of love!!
Ms. Czbas who is going on her fifth year of teaching art to elementary students is an amazing teacher. She is so gifted in her talents. She was my oldest daughter's eighth grade drama teacher when we first moved here! Crazy how time flies and now she's teaching my younger kids art!
This year each student had two works of art on display with over 1000 pieces covering the walls of the hallways. We most definitely took the time to see each piece of art. We laughed, smiled, "oohed, and awed" as we were looking at the paintings.
Really interesting minds, and pretty cool art that these kids portrayed.
Here a few pieces that were among my favorites...
All the fourth graders (including mine) created their collage by using cut-paper to create their own look of Pablo Picasso's abstract painting...The Three Musicians.
This was the work of third graders. I captured a photo of Chelsea as she was passing the "The Tree of Life." I thought it was so springy and pretty with the different colored butterflies. It's adapted by Gustav Klimt's tree of life.
And some of these were just too cool not to photograph.
These paintings, and drawings all put a smile on my face. I see Chelsea's reaction when she was showing us her artwork, and can tell that it helps her escape from reality. She loves the arts, and anything to do with coloring, and drawing. I always find joy, and comfort whenever I attend an art show. Whether the work is done by a professional or by elementary kids it is worth the time to go.
There is no boredom when it comes to art!

"It's Saturday!"
This year all the third grade classes performed together for their end of year school production called "It's Saturday", and what a perfect day to write about it because guess what...it's Saturday! I was amazed at how quickly the auditorium filled up. There were so many proud parents out there having a grand time watching their kid perform, sing, dance, act crazy, and just having a good old time. I was very, very impressed with this particular group of kids. Including mine. For weeks and weeks Chelsea was singing and practicing her skit, and she was so ready for "opening night". She is somewhat of a perfectionist, and wanted to get every single line, and song spoken and sung without any mistakes. I can see that they put so much effort, and hard work in rehearsing for this play, and it was so fun to watch. Particularly because they were all in pajamas. I think their favorite part of rehearsing for this play was the fact that they got to practice in their pajamas, and come to school in them for one day!
Chelsea was part of the Harmony choir, and I am so pleased with her singing & acting ability. She was so cute, and because the songs and skit were fun to read I had to put it on video. Well...not the entire play, but I only recorded two of the songs she's part of in the skit. The kids all sang with such enthusiasm, and they all looked so happy to be singing "It's Saturday!" I mean...they should be because after a long week of school Saturday is "the best day all week long."
"It's Saturday!" from Rose Jorgensen on Vimeo.
This song was my favorite! Saturdays truly are a night of fun, and innocent shenanigans for little kids. I have to warn you about this one...it includes a pillow fight.

Middle School 1st Annual Talent Show '14
Last week Lexie's middle school put on a talent show that consisted of dancing, singing, piano playing, and more singing! This is the first time the school has done a talent show where they were awarded a cash prize. Lexie was excited to have participated along with her pal Alicia who paired up with her to sing "Sweater Weather" by the band The Neighbourhood. I am surprised that the song "Let it Go" from the popular movie Frozen was only sang once. Then again I don't think that contestants can duplicate another persons choice of song.
For weeks Lexie and Alicia have been waiting for this moment, and even though they didn't practice as much as they wanted to they did phenomenal. Unfortunately they didn't place, and in my opinion (among numerous others including teachers who will remain anonymous) agreed with me. However everyone did such a wonderful job.
| ^^^ paparazzi with iPhones ^^^ |
Oh my gosh...the talents our kids have today! I was blown away by some of their performances. I had to take a picture of these group of kids who were like paparazzi recording the lovely Maya who sang "Dark Side". So impressed with kids today on their talents, and how some of them are involved with music.
I was not involved in anything that involved "major talent" (not sure if you count winning the spelling bee in 5th grade is a talent) until I was in my 10th grade year of high school. I'm just so grateful for the open mind that I had in deciding to have my girls take piano lessons. I wish my mother had the means to do that when I was their age, but it was not feasible...like at all! To be musically inclined is indeed a blessing, and sometimes a god-given talent. Lexie only took piano lessons for three years, and has never had voice lessons. Her forte is the violin, and I'm just so pleased that she has the desire to teach herself to get better on the piano. I wish I could afford for all my children (including myself) to take all the lessons in the world with multiple instruments, but I'm grateful for what the Lord has blessed them with. The sacrifices we make as parents to have our kids take music lessons, or be in any sport is a huge blessing.
The girls performance was exceptional and well received. I'm just so bummed that my video got cut off due to my phone running out of storage! Luckily I recorded most of the performance, and that it's a clear sound & picture of my girl playing and singing. If you're my friend on Facebook there is another video on my timeline filmed in its entirety which I borrowed from my buddy Chuck.
It was a great evening, and we really enjoyed the talent show. All i know is that no matter what these kids decide to do in four years after graduating high school they all have a voice, an act, and a talent that they can share no matter where they go. They were all very brave in participating, and all did an amazing job!

the national junior honor society.
"I pledge myself
to uphold the higher purposes
of the national junior honor society
to which I have been selected...

of the national junior honor society
to which I have been selected...
Striving in every way,
by word and deed
to make its ideals, the ideals of my life."
I decided to attend the ceremony last night to extend my support to this years new inductees, and to get a glimpse of what I missed last year. It's surreal to see my eighth grader growing up in becoming a sophisticated young woman, & hard to believe that she'll be in high school in less than seven months! Didn't I just have a kid that just graduated high school? It's bittersweet, & witnessing tonight's ceremony with all the chapter members of the class of 2014 was impressive.
Hearing some of their speeches tonight were insightful & it's amazing to see how well this generation is becoming. These kids are too smart for their own good & it scares me sometimes! I always tell Lexie that you can succeed in all that you do & no matter how grand your dreams are you are the only one that can make them come true.
I'm so pleased with her & obviously love to share my enthusiasm about my kids' accomplishments. It's great to see her being academically inclined as to keeping up that 4.0 GPA.
Her intelligence reminds me of my own...up until the point I messed up in in high school ruining my GPA, but because of my faults I can bring forth the opposite example & teach her that academics are way more important than boys, & hanging out at the mall!
Fun is great, but that can wait!
Lexie is a doer, not a thinker & she definitely is a student before an athlete (at least for now.) She definitely shows great leadership quality, is confident, has a beautiful character in how she treats others, serves her fellow man with love & compassion, & exhibits an attitude of gratitude filled with mannerisms of humility, grace, & integrity.
So glad I hung around for this event & that I was able to hear her play the keyboard while we sang the national anthem.
Lexie is following in her sister's footsteps, and I'm sure that she'll be in the NHS once she gets into high school. That is something to be said about this mom who had it pretty rough in making "not so smart' choices that didn't meet NJHS material. Nonetheless I made out pretty well, and so far...so are my girls.

Congratulations to my 'not so little' girl (who's now taller than me) keep up the excellent work!
You're going to grow up to do something amazing...I just know it!

a back to school letter.
Six days have passed since school began and from the looks on your faces when y'all came home I saw all the goodness that it brought.
Chelsea,
I loved when you came home all excited with a huge smile telling me how much you love your teacher already, and how happy you are that you stayed in Jersey so that you can see some of your friends that were in last years class. You are at an age where it wouldn't have mattered where your 3rd grade year began, but deep down I know you were excited to stay.
Lexie,
I know it's a bit of a shock that we're still here because I know you were just as anxious to move as I was (even though we shouldn't be.) To begin another chapter in our life of making new friends in a new town, and different ward in the church. I know how much you loved the area we looked at in Connecticut and how excited you were to have met some of the young women in the church up there. I know how much you loved the school you would have been attending, and the fact that we'd be closer to Boston so that you we could constantly take drives through Harvard University, and explore more history there. But as you know life throws us these challenges, and The Lord is keeping us here in Jersey for a reason.
On a good note all of your classmates at school were delighted to see you on your first day!! Funny how some of them thought you lived in Connecticut and then moved back within two months. Mr. Nichols sure is a funny guy to have teased them that way, and I could tell that he is ecstatic that you are still here to give more action to the band, and to finish the year off with a bang. Your name will be on that plaque, and you will be known for the goodness that you shared! You'll leave some legacy girl!
People in our community love you both so much, and I'm sure the teachers are so happy to have the Jorgensen girls still lingering around to brighten their days.
*****
Little Noah,
You are not so little anymore. You were so looking forward to carrying your backpack, and walking to the bus stop with your sisters to attend preschool, but luckily you don't turn four until November which means I have you all to myself for the rest of the year! You still get to walk with us to see Chelsea off at the bus stop, and your turn for that will be here before we know it! I am going to enjoy every minute with you each day, and promise that I will do my best to make them fun for you! You'll be spoiled wearing your p.j.'s and hunter boots until noon (unless you'd rather go to the park earlier.)
I am so happy that all of you had a wonderful first week at school and that there were no frowns, tears, or complaints of any kind. You two are strong like your older sister, and are going to do great just like she did.
Remember to just be yourself, don't ever forget where you come from, and stay strong in keeping your standards high. People love you for who you are. You all have friends who respect and love everything that you are, and in what you believe in.
Have a fabulous school year, and enjoy your last year of middle school Lexie.
Chelsea...keep giving that smile to the teachers to brighten their day. You are magnificent!
Noah...don't drive me crazy, and keep me sane because boy...you are so much fun to hang around with!
xo,
Mom

Noah...don't drive me crazy, and keep me sane because boy...you are so much fun to hang around with!

an ode to a new school year.
By the looks of it via Facebook it seems like many of your kids enjoyed their first day. I saw how lovely they all looked dressed up carrying their backpacks, & oh how they treasure those!
All your children looked so happy & excited, and lets hope that they'll carry those smiles all year round!
Sending our kids back to school sure is bittersweet because they grow up way too fast!
Enjoy your children while they're little because before you know it they'll be off to college, hence our last major summer trip.
Let their hearts carry that inner child with them whether it's building rock towers or
playing with balloons, & save the pictures that they color even if its filled with scribbles.
Listen to them as they come home & tell you about their day. Better yet, ask them how their day went first.
Let's not be in a hurry to rush this school year or hurry our kids into becoming small grown ups.
Enjoy their youth, cherish it, enjoy even the small little things that they say or do.
Most importantly...listen.
Nowadays that's all a child wants is for us as parents to listen & be there for them.
This is an attribute that I have learned to improve throughout my years of motherhood & have done better at not always being in a hurry or rushing my life away with my family.
Time is precious & so are the lives of our children.
Luckily for us school doesn't begin until the day after Labor Day. We love New England and are enjoying the adventures of Newport in Rhode Island.
We are making every memory count!
Happy Tuesday to you!

honors band concert
When you have four kids you tend to document almost every detail of their life. Not everything, but almost everything. When it comes to music I definitely have to have record of it. I have three girls that play the piano, and tonight it was Alexandra's turn to perform.
She tried out for honors band about a month ago, and made it in. She is the keyboard player of her school, and absolutely loves it.
Tonight three middle schools from the township we live in got their honors bands together to play some awesome music! They even added the honors chorus as a bonus!
There are so many kids who move towards the woodwind, brass & percussion instruments, and not enough string players. Too bad there is no orchestra on this side of town. Alex would be a part of that in a heartbeat! We hope that the high school she's in a couple of years will have one! She had a blast playing in the All south Jersey Jr. orchestra back in January.
Since I didn't play any instrument in school I didn't encourage my girls to play. And the only reason Jon played the trumpet in middle school for one year was so that he could get out of gym class! Nice huh?
So I have a lot of gratitude for the people who played an important role in my life for encouraging me to encourage our kids in learning an instrument.
One teacher in particular was Sierra's second grade music teacher who told me to get her into piano lessons because she had an innate talent in playing the guitar (which she hasn't done that in long while), and reading music...at 7 years old! I will always be thankful for Mr. Doran in encouraging both my husband & I to get her into lessons because piano is her forte. Her example has made all of her sisters into big time music geeks.
Alexandra obviously has followed in her footsteps, but also took a bold move in playing the violin, and she admits that is her favorite!
Mr. Nichols has been a great band teacher to all the students. He has been there for Alex in times of need when it comes to any questions she may have that deals with music.
For the past two years she has made great friends in middle school.![]() |

I always share my thoughts and feelings about music whenever I write about it, and every time I hear my girls play, or sing it brings me great joy. I am in awe when I hear them because that's something that I never did, and never thought our children would do. It brings peace in the home whenever someone is having a bad day (including the piano player), and comforts every single one of us. I honestly don't know what we'd do without it.
