It's been almost two years since we've been living in the Princeton area, and feel as if we've neglected exploring places that are close to home. We constantly go out of town on the weekends, but hardly ever venture out into familiar territory that is literally in our own backyard. Since we can't venture out to the city too much during the school week the kids and I decided to find places close to home where we can go to for recreational fun.
Yesterday after school we went to Sayen gardens to see if the flowers, and trees have bloomed. We went last fall, and it was beautiful to see the fall foliage in the garden, and now that spring has officially sprung the kids (and I) decided to put homework aside, and go for a walk along the gardens.
Sayen Gardens is nothing compared to the new york botanical gardens, or Longwood gardens, but it's perfect for our neck of the woods. It's quaint, and quiet and perfect for those who want to take photos for prom, graduation, or cute kids.
It usually takes us about an hour, and a half to walk the entire grounds, (maybe longer when you have an active boy asking questions about every single flower, and creature he sees crawling along the way), and there were some spots where the flowers were not in bloom, and trees that were still peaking. We did find a beautiful section of flowers, and bloomed trees and randomly captured moments of the kids walking around.
fici I love this season and really hopes it lasts longer since it arrived late. I love these nature walks with my kids. It's nice to go alone, but when you have company makes it more special. We are going to take advantage of venturing out to places close to home more often. We will still go to the city, but when it's a school day, and all they want to do is relax this place was perfect for today!
For those of who who live in Jersey ere are a few places to go in the Princeton area, and North Jersey that we've been to since we moved here that are fun, and educational to go to:
Grounds for Sculpture
Thomas Edison Museum
Belmar Beach/Coney Waffle
Princeton Museum
Mercer Park
Newark Musuem
Paterson Falls
Barnegat lighthouse
