First Day as a Sophomore!
It's so true when they tell you that the years fly by especially when they get into high school. That couldn't be more true. Today is the first day of high school and Noah is now a sophomore! It's mind-blowing to see that. The years have definitely flown for us with him. He was pretty excited to go back. When I picked him up after school today and asked about his day he said so far his teachers seem pretty cool. Nice. So let's hope this kid has an amazing school year. It won't be perfect but I know he does his best in being a good student!

Chelsea's Senior Night-Tennis.
This past Monday was senior night for chelsea and she was recognized for her accomplishments and hard work in being the best tennis player she can be. Three coaches, four tennis partners, 25 teammates, and four years of 324 tennis matches! Can’t believe this is the end of Chelsea’s high school tennis career and she ended up winning her last match!
I have also witnessed how soooo many of the younger girls loved and looked up to her. These young women were (are) like the little sisters Chelsea never had. For Chelsea, it wasn’t always about winning, but making it a team effort and paying attention to the younger girls who needed a boost as they themselves are learning to have a love for the game. Bittersweet for sure as she’ll miss them when she graduates and as she hangs up her tennis racket for the time being.

Pre-Prom Photo Dump- Chelsea's Jr. Prom!
Well, the time has come for my youngest daughter to experience her first prom and although she was filled with nerves she had the time of her life. Noah's as cool as the proposal he did to her and she had an amazing time with all her friends including her BFF Carly. I am so grateful for the sweet friendships she has made since transferring schools her 8th grade year. Going to Prom with a friend named Noah was confusing at first being that her brothers name is also named Noah. Heck I even thought she was always talking about her brother but then I learned to distinguish the two when she mentioned how Noah was in class with her and I was like, "Wait, Noah doesn't go to your school." LOL! Anyway, it was funny at times but happy that prom happened and that she is no longer stressing about "the dress." Such a tender moment to watch Noah (her bro) hugging and looking up at her saying, "yeah, you look pretty."
And she did! Absolutely stunning if you ask me!
Now for a photo dump...

Skull & Bones!
For the longest time Lexie has always talked about being a doctor. When she was 10 years old she said she wanted to be a pediatrician when she grew up, and till this day she still wants to be a doctor. She is in love with anatomy and biology, and has always been fascinated with the body, bones, and brains.

Lexie & Zach-Senior Prom.
This post is mainly going to consist of photos because everyone looked so beautiful. Lexie getting asked to prom got her pretty giddy mainly because she loves the group of friends she went with, and the young man she escorted was a gentleman. So instead of writing my heart out as to how the day went in regards to her getting ready, and all the fun that happened before I am going to quote Lexie as to what she wrote on her instagram she shared with her friends about attending her first prom in her junior year, "Hey, so um...never had a conversation before but...prom?? Tubular-est night ever!" And the comments to that, "no comment." Seriously though, everyone said she looked beautiful! And we all agreed!

The First Week Of April....
After having the most awesome company come visit us all the way from Utah the busyness of high school activities returned, and with a vengenance. A musical, a world language induction, watching general conference at our church, and catching up on my blogging filled this past week(end) for me. I didn't mind the endless carpooling to Lexie's high school for the final rundown before the show because the look on her face whilst dropping off dinner in between rehearsals was priceless. She was totally having fun. Having seen her musical two days in a row all weekend long was euphoric, and left me feeling energized to do more, and for things to get back to normal. Well, almost.

Jazz Java Jam!
This past Friday Lexie's high school band had an event called "Java Jam" This was Lexie's first performance playing the piano with her new jazz band. Although she misses the jazz band at her old high school she really has adjusted to this great group of kids, and her teacher. Every jazz band plays differently, and every teacher has their own style, and I have to say that I was impressed with this particular jazz band. They all sounded amazing, and everyone did a great job playing their part with great sound. Lexie is also part of the all girls A Capella group, and they all sung great! I didn't get to record any of their singing, but I did record one of my favorite jazz pieces which is Duke Ellington's "Caravan" in which the band played. Caravan has become a favorite of mine, and I blame it on the movie Whiplash. I absolutely loved that movie, but not the barbaric actions on how the teacher in the film teaches his students. I love the drum solo in Caravan, and the adrenaline rush it gives when played, and the drummer in this jazz band nailed it. I'm only grateful that Lexie's new jazz band teacher doesn't curse, or treats his students as J.K. Simmons did in the movie, and motivates them without having to throw any furniture, or cymbals at them!
Had so much fun listening to them play, and watching them all get down as they were playing. You can view more on my you tube channel if you'd like! It truly was a great evening with relaxing sounds of jazz, and voices that sounded like gold! Good job kids!

A New Team, & On Winning Her First Tennis Match.
I love this time of year when the weather starts cooling down where I can sit and watch my girl play tennis. When I went to Lexie's first official tennis match last week I noticed her rocking her school colors. They just got their tennis uniforms and I think red and black suits her. If you notice her tennis shoes they are the same as her school colors. I bought them back in April and little did we know we'd be moving to a school with those same exact colors! When I noticed that I said to Lexie, "this school is meant to be!"
I missed the first part of her game due to Noah's bus coming home so late. The first week of school tends to be a little chaotic with buses arriving, and dropping off late. Her match began at 4:30, and because we had to drive 15 minutes to her location arrived close to 5pm causing us to miss the first part of her game. Luckily I caught a glimpse of her backhand, and she and her new partner killed it! Score was 6-2.
Abi is her new tennis partner, and in some cool way reminds me of her tennis partner back at highland. I've met most of the girls on the team and these group of girls for the most part are polite, and sweet. It makes me feel good seeing that Lexie has meshed in real well with the team. Here, in this part of Jersey kids and coaches take tennis seriously. Tennis is a lifestyle, and not just a sport, and that's what Lexie likes about it. There are girls on the team who have been taking lessons since they were six, and play really well. Lexie has a genuine love for the game, and tries her best to practice so she can play her best. Her coaches are really kind, and easy to talk to and I can see that they work really well with these girls.
Lexie's goal is to become good enough to play in college, and I know she can do it. If she practices hard enough she can do it!
I'm happy that she feels confident, and comfortable on her new tennis team, and that she has fun playing the game! And from what I have been seeing during her practices throughout the summer, and her first game she already is!
I think it also helps knowing that she has a cute little brother who likes to photobomb pictures! The girls think he is the cutest thing alive!
Have a great season Lexie!

Sing, Sing, Sing & Lexie Playing the Piano In A Video.
Since I hardly take pictures of Lexie when it comes to her jazz band competitions I felt it would b suitable to post this picture of her from her homecoming last fall.
The kids are required to look sharply dressed while performing and I have to say that everyone looked so nice on their most recent competition. They looked extra sharp on this evening partially because it fell on the same night as their prom.
**You can also view other posts of Lexie, and Sierra in previous jazz band performances here, here, and here.

Last week we finally had the opportunity to finally see Lexie perform and to hear how this years jazz band sounds, and although it's a different group of kids they continue to play well, and I'm very proud at how well Lexie plays the piano. It may not be her forte, because she prefers playing the violin, but loves playing instruments even if it's a big box of wood, and enjoys being a part of the jazz band for her school.
My favorite piece of the evening was when four of the band members sang "Sing, Sing, Sing" which is originally sung by the New York Voices. Lexie was the accompanist, and everyone sang and played so well! Their energy in singing made me want to get up and do some swing dancing! It was fun to watch their reactions while singing, and could tell that they were having fun singing the song. Lexie was getting into the rhythm of the song while playing the piano, and for a moment had a flashback of when Sierra used to play for the band. Totally Bittersweet.
It was such a fun evening, and Chelsea and Noah were so happy to finally see their sister in action on the piano, and hearing that song made my evening. I'm a lover of jazz, and hope that each year all the bands in every school district in the universe never stop playing, and that jazz will never die.

The Little Mermaid.
As much as I dislike how late the teacher/director keeps the kids late from school every single year when it comes to the high school plays due to rehearsals especially when it comes to extra curricular activities I always look forward to the high school musical. I recall being in a drama class once throughout my high school career, but we didn't have any plays or musicals so it's always a thrill to see what musical my kids school are going to do next in this generation.
I'm amazed at the stamina and energy these kids have when it comes to wanting to be a part of something they love. Being in the high school musical requires a lot of hard work in auditioning for the part, memorizing lines, endless hours of rehearsals, and hoping to hit those high notes while singing.
And all these kids did an amazing job!
Luckily "tech week" doesn't last for too long, and that the exhaustion only lasts for a couple of weeks. I can't even imaging the life of a broadway actor, because in their case they do shows that last for years, and years! It's amazing to see how, no matter how stressful those weeks of rehearsing can get that at the end of the day, things work out, fall into place, and that the show is terrific.
Regardless of all those late, and sleepless nights Lexie always makes the best out of every activity, and in this case the role that she was chosen for the musical this year was one that she was pleased with. She always makes the best of each role no matter what part she plays, and enjoys being a part of something she enjoys. She did her very best in hitting that high note in the end, and did a pretty good job.
This year she played one of the princesses, Sleeping Beauty in the Little Mermaid.
Since I didn't come early enough to get a good seat in the front I didn't take too many photos, but I managed to save a few blurry ones from my Snapchat, and the one I posted at the top I stole from the school's Facebook page!

She was cute playing one of the fishes under the sea, and even more beautiful as a princess. She really enjoyed being a part of this production, and looks forward to the musical next year.
Each year we are proud of all her accomplishments, and even though she's like a zombie throughout those weeks of rehearsal she says those late nights of rehearsing are worth it, because she enjoys being a part of something she enjoys doing all in the name of fun!
***You can see other plays she's been in here, here, here, and a combination of all of them here.

Vocal Resolution | 2015-2016.
The day after the girls birthdays we all went to Cherry Hill East High School to attend Lexie's first annual A Capella competition which included 10 high schools all around the mid-atlantic region. They competed against nine other A cappella groups, and oh my gosh...I felt like i was watching pitch perfect live except without the unnecessary drama. Everyone was so amazing. All the groups sang different renditions of modern songs of today, and some were a bit old school. One of the schools had an all girl a cappella group called Tickled Pink. They were so cute sporting their pink pumps, and leather jackets. Everyone looked so great out there and their performances were pretty phenomenal. What an amazing talent among young men and women! I was so impressed with all the groups, and unfortunately Highland didn't win this year, but in my eyes everyone is a winner because everyone was so amazing!
A friend of Lexie's from another school whose group is called Stay Tuned placed second, and another friend of ours whose brother is in the TestosterTones from Princeton High placed third. Again...everyone did such an amazing job, and everyone was a winner!

Vocal Resolution is truly an amazing group with a lot of talented kids, and I'm sure they'll step it up even more next year! Especially now since they know what to expect. The fact that they went on stage is proof enough that their talent is good enough to make it to the ICHSA competition. Overall everyone was amazing, and I'm just so impressed with everyone's talent.
I'm so glad that Sierra was able to witness their performance live while she was visiting. She was in Vocal Resolution when it was first established back in 2013 so she is a veteran through and through. She enjoyed everyone's performance, and had such a great evening. It was such a fun time for all of us.
We do look forward to next years competition as this is something new for us. Such an exciting time for Vocal Resolution I'm sure, and I'm excited for them.
*Since we were sitting in the way back I didn't get to record their entire performance, but did manage to get a short 10 second recording of part of their performance, and you can catch a glimpse of it here.

2015 Holiday Concert.
I'm extremely grateful that all my kids are musical, and that they involve themselves in extra curricular activities that they love.
Last night we attended Lexie's holiday concert, and I was impressed on how well the concert choir, and band sang and played. I love this time of year when concerts come into play, and regardless of the "60 degree without any snowy kind of weather" we've been having we still managed to get into the holiday spirit and rejoice! I love hearing her sing with the choir, and believe me even though she is standing with 11 other people in Vocal Resolution, and about 70 other kids in the choir she stands out, and I can hear her amazing voice.
This was her first year being the accompanist for one of the songs. She played Jay Althouse's "Slow Dancing in the Snow" and she played it perfectly. In a way she reminded me of Sierra, but one thing i love about Lexie is that she is her own person, and in no way is she trying to be like her sister. Sure Sierra left somewhat of a legacy when it came to playing the piano at Highland, but in no way is she trying to "follow in her sisters footsteps." Even though she loves playing the piano it is not her forte. She is the violinist in the family, and in all honesty prefers that over piano. It's a shame that there is no orchestra in her high school, but she is grateful that she has the opportunity to play the violin in the band as well as play the piano.
Here's the video of her playing, and you can hear a snippet of the choir singing Hallelujah here.

Jon, and I had a pretty amazing evening. Just as we spent our anniversary eating here four years ago, we didn't mind spending our anniversary at Lexie's winter concert. It was free, and fun, and we would do it again in a heartbeat!
Anything for our kiddos right?

L.O.V.E. at the Tennis Banquet.
Monica Seles once said, "Tennis has to become everything to you, if you want to make it to the top. You have to live it." One thing I have to say about Lexie in regards to tennis is that she really has a love for the game, and believe me she lived it all year long. During the summer, and throughout the school year she worked exceptionally hard on practicing so that she can make the team, but most of all to play with the best, and you know something...she had a great year.
Not only did she have a great doubles partner, but she had two amazing coaches that helped her along the way. These two coaches are definitely unique in their own way, and from what Lexie tells me they're both different yet, so much alike. So much alike in the sense that they look after their girls when it comes to playing. She really admires them both and appreciates their way of coaching.
Tonight's banquet went really well, and man did I fill myself up with pizza, chips, soda, and a pile of dirt cake in a cup! I guess now that tennis season is over the girls are allowed to eat all the pizza, and junk food they want. Wait a minute...I'm sure they did that regardless of playing! Anyway, it's always a joy attending my girls banquets, and to see them grow in their accomplishments. It sure makes me one proud mama. The years are definitely changing, and quickly passing us by. It's important to remember these moments so that they can reflect back on their achievements, and what they did in order to get there. Practice makes perfect, and I know that Lexie is very willing to practice her heart out no matter what the season is so that she can make varsity next year. There are a lot of seniors who will be graduating which means a lot of open spots left to fill for next year. Lexie can totally have one of those spots. If she really works hard, and practices hard enough, and continues to work on her form she can definitely fill one of them, and be one of the top players on the team. She has the desire, determination, and stamina to make that happen. Everyone can be a great tennis player if you just work hard enough.
Now, a few more photos from tonight's banquet...
^^^ Before each award was presented Mr. Wonderlin would add a snippet about each girl, and mentioned how every time Lexie would miss the ball she'd make a weird noise whereas Kourtney would vent, and let off steam on twitter. The truth made them laugh! ^^^
^^^ Jackie is an amazing player, and played on the varsity team this year. Next to Lexie she was one of my favorite players. ^^^

^^^ My little photo bomber. ^^^
^^^ and a couple of group photos of this years tennis team. ^^^
So glad I captured this photo of Britney who is an alumni at Highland. She also played tennis with my other daughter sierra. We face timed her tonight before the banquet began, but had to hang up because i didn't want to be disruptive. How cool it would have been had Sierra been here to support her sister, and see one of her dearest, and closest friends.
Pretty bummed that i didn't get a photo with lexie, but then again we have so many pictures together. Very proud of Lexie on how well she played this year, and amidst all the drama that opponents may bring she managed to handle it pretty well. She always played a good game even when she was defeated.
But between you and me, after she lost a game she would let off her steam to me and her dad. And when she plays watch out. The serious side of Lexie comes out with her orneriness and all especially when the opposing team is cheating! She does have a dark side to her when it comes to playing tennis, but that's because she truly has a love for the game.
She reminded me of something Chris Evert once said...
"To be a tennis champion, you have to be flexible. You have to be stubborn. You have to be arrogant. You have to be selfish, and self-absorbed. Kind of tunnel vision almost."
Well, she's not quite there in flexibility, but she's well on her way. And even though she's humble, she can have that attitude, but at the end of each game she played it was all good!
And she was good sport.

A Good "Match."
Going to Lexie's tennis matches is like good therapy for me. I love the competition. I love that she loves it. I love that she plays from her heart, and I love that she has a doubles partner who actually uses the technique that she is taught at practice, and that they use all their might to play the best they can. They have had quite a few wins lately, and I have to say that after playing one of the toughest teams today, they played really well. And although they didn't win, their hard work, and effort that they put into the game is good enough for me to see that they love to play, and seriously try their hardest to win, and handle defeat with a good attitude.
With tennis comes frustration. At least it does for me when I see people that I love, and admire play. Tennis celebrities included. I have also noticed that I have to contain my composure when I go to my daughters tennis matches. I don't pull a John McEnroe with curse words or anything, but I'm definitely the parent that shows my frustration when I see the opponents not being completely honest when they score. There's no umpire, and their coach cannot stand at every single court watching all their girls play so it can be a bit difficult when there is no one to determine whether the ball is in or out. It's up to the players to determine that.
Not all the teams that they've played are dishonest in their scoring, but to see the Jorgensen girls playing, and taking score with integrity tells me that we parents did a pretty good job in raising honest, well-mannered young women. It's upsetting when I see the opposing players whispering, and looking down at them with somewhat of a "I play better, and I'm more skilled" attitude. For the most part I'm pretty okay, and try my best to just let it go. I try really hard not to embarrass my daughter by voicing negative words, or talking under my breath uttering words like, "hello, can we say thank you" or "nice manners babe." You know, stuff like that. Not a very grown up way to handle things huh? There are times when Jon will tell me to "keep my voice down", or "be nice", and sometimes I just don't listen. I know I should be a better example, and not stoop to a high schoolers level when it comes to seeing any of my kids play. I see it in Lexie's face that she gets a bit frustrated as well, but with tact will let them know that their ball was out. Hearing the words "nice shot", "nice serve", or "nice backhand" towards their opponents pleases me. They truly are the kindest girls regardless of how dishonest, and rude the opposing team can be.
Overall I always leave the matches with a good attitude, and not once have Lexie or I uttered the words, "you cannot be serious" out loud! I mean, it's not like their playing for Wimbledon and shooting to win a silver cup! I have to remember that it's high school, and that they're not being graded on it! Integrity is big deal to me, and it's nice to see that some of our kids in today's generation still have that. Especially when it comes to playing a sport.
Here's to the Jorgensen girls who are a great "match" when it comes to playing tennis, and wish you the best in winning more matches this week!

A LITTLE SPEECH TO THE CLASS OF 1990.
^^^ Small class, but what an amazing group of people! Photo source: Carol Gillett ^^^
Last Friday I shared a video on my Facebook that was specifically for the class of 1990, and I hope that whoever viewed it enjoyed it, and didn't get tired of me saying the words "great" and "amazing!" Ha Ha! It was a riot watching my video after posting knowing of the things that I said, but there's no going back because everything that was uttered in that video was raw footage, and there was no editing! Yikes!!
So for those of you who may have had friends ask you, "hey, did you see Rosie Lara, Jorgensen's or whatever her name is video?" and said, "nah, who cares" or didn't get a chance to view it, here it is on vimeo.
I also wrote a few extra words on this blog post so without trying to sound too redundant here's somewhat of a repeat of the things I said on the video. If you're a fast reader you can read this post under two minutes, but the video is about six minutes long. Can you hang for about eight minutes?
Anyway, here's my post...
I can't believe 25 years have passed since our high school graduation. As I surf through my Facebook feed and see familiar faces I feel as if it was yesterday. 25 years isn't long if you think about it. Life is fleeting, and I count my blessings for social media in that regard. I am happy to see that there are so many that still keep in touch with each other, and are still close now as y'all were in high school, and that is awesome! Friendships are meant to last, and it's great to see those friendships continue on today. I myself am also grateful for the friendships that I have kept since high school!
Whether we were friends for a week, a month, a year, four years, or since birth we are all in this thing together called life. Whether we were acquaintances or just said "hi" and "goodbye" in passing was good enough to know that I was acknowledged. Whether we hung around in the same click, different clicks or no click, it didn't matter. I was aware of your presence, and seeing your actions is what helped me get through those fun, mostly difficult years through high school. Then again...I mostly went to school to feel loved, and not to learn. Whether we were part of the drill team, the drama club, the band, bookworms, skaters, or even the loners, I want you to know that I paid attention, and that in some shape or form I wanted to be a part of that friendship (#esteemissues.) It is amazing to see those said friendships continue on today via Facebook, and at times will make me a bit "friend sick."
I want you to know that in spite of all the bad choices I made when it came to my grades, catty girl fights, and boys (#dumbpuppylove) that underneath the pain I was feeling, and masked that there were some of you who made a very big impression on me, and huge difference in my life after I left Kingsville.
And I believe that's why I'm raising my children differently, and why I am the way I am today. (#mormonconvert)

So I thank you.
Being a mother of four I've realized that those are experiences I needed to go through at that time I. order for me to be the person i am today. (Why did that sound redundant?)
And I'm so grateful.
I have no regrets of all the choices I made, and/or the challenges that I faced (and some of them were pretty scary, and bad), because those experiences taught me a lot, and in return I can teach my children to do better, teach them to be aware of what's good and bad, and to make wise decisions as their growing up.
I am truly proud of those who worked so hard in order to make those wise choices, and not surprised of your successes.

There were many intelligent folks in my class, and am amazed at seeing doctors, nurses, lawyers, principals, politicians, constables, and numerous educators.
Extremely proud of y'all.
Even more proud of the stay at home mom such as myself as well as anyone who does anything freelance (such as I.)
I attest that to good parenting, and having good high school teachers, and counselors made that possible!
I wish you guys well with continued success, and pray that we will continue to live for another 25 years so that we can attend our 50th reunion (man will we be old!) Hope to make it to that one!
I want you to know that each and every one of you are worthy in all things, and that no matter how old we get we can do hard things. Especially our children since they are the next generation. Never give up on life, and know that I love ya!
And whether you follow me or not on Facebook thank you for continuing your friendship with me, and that you haven't defriended me yet! And if you have it's okay. I hardly keep tabs on Facebook anyway (I'm an instagram freak!) Overall...I'm grateful for the friends I've kept, and for those that remember me.
It was so nice to have seen the photos of the reunion that were posted on Facebook recently, and that everyone looks so happy and healthy!
Salud, and take care!

Scenes from RENT
Apparently we are one of a very few high schools in the nation currently staging this production. Luckily it's the high school version of RENT, and let me tell you...they really pulled it off!
This show was amazing!

Now...if only everyone could do that in the "real world".

there's only this
forget regret,
or life is yours to miss.
No other road,
no other way,
no day but today."
