The day she won the Safety Essay contest I received a phone call from the principals secretary letting me know that there was going to be a dinner with the American Legion and was going to be recognized for her accomplishment and be awarded a prize, but we couldn't attend because it fell on the same night as her drama production. After talking to her drama teacher they decided that because of endless hours of rehearsal that the drama production took precedence over the dinner.
