Lewis Shining Star Student.

The day she won the Safety Essay contest I received a phone call from the principals secretary letting me know that there was going to be a dinner with the American Legion and was going to be recognized for her accomplishment and be awarded a prize, but we couldn't attend because it fell on the same night as her drama production. After talking to her drama teacher they decided that because of endless hours of rehearsal that the drama production took precedence over the dinner.
We were a little bummed because this was an exciting moment for her. I remember she came home with an ear to ear smile telling me that out of so many kids from 7th and 8th grade that participated in this contest that she won! I was so happy for her and that her essay was the one that was chosen.

The funny thing is that she had forgotten about this essay contest, and wrote it the night before it had to be turned in!! I hope she doesn't get mad at me when she reads this for writing that, but it's true! I am in awe of her talent when it comes to writing, but it is something I don't recommend for students or for anyone who has an essay due the next day! Procrastination is not the best, and although we think it can be because we got an A on our project, midterm, paper, or what have you it will catch up to you, and bite you in the butt. It's a slippery slope, but we are all guilty of it...even me sometimes when it comes to certain things.

Drama production happened, and a week past and wondered how the dinner went. Lexie came home the other day with her "award". I was thinking a plaque or a certificate. Wrong...she came home with two checks. I'm sorry for posting, and for bragging about this but I'm just so darn proud of her. Heck, I never even got 150 bucks when I was her age throughout my middle school years, and I was a pretty smart cookie back then. Sure she got recognized throughout her elementary years as a buddy reader, helper, all A student, but this is middle school, and to me this is a big deal.
She's also going to get recognized next Monday evening for being selected as her school's "Shining Star Student" for her overall commitment to service as demonstrated in her participation in the St. Baldrick's Foundation. She's in eighth grade, and already being recognized, and awarded for her major accomplishments. Woot! Woot! (insert excited face emoji here.)

I am so proud of her because if she's already getting recognized for awards now I can't even begin to think how well she'll do in high school, and what awards, scholarships she'll get in the future. I have a pretty good idea because her sister did exceptionally well in her academics as well. There's no comparison between them two, and are both wonderful daughters, and excellent students when it comes to their academics. I've always taught my girls that when you do good things, and serve others with a genuine heart that your cup will runneth over with blessings, and Lexie's cup is getting pretty full at such a young age.

I pray that my proud mama moments never stop with my children especially when it comes to education because that is so important to complete in today's world of economics.

Way to go Lexie!
