An Egg Hunt & Confetti Cascarones In Central Park.

One thing I miss about living in Texas, and having my kids attend school were the traditions that the school district had for them. During the easter season they always set a time for the kids to go outside, and have a little fiesta whilst cracking confetti cascarones on their heads. I remember a year or two when my elementary school did it as well. This is a Mexican tradition that makes me proud to be a Latina, and grateful for teachers, including my mom who took the time to make a few when I was little.

I have continued this tradition with my kids, and besides dyeing hardboiled eggs (not uncooked, I just want to clarify that) we also make cascarones with confetti inside. For those of you who don't know what confetti cascarones are and how to make them you can read about it here.
Aside from watching General Conference this past weekend we had ourselves a little egg hunt in central park. Last year we had an egg hunt for Noah in Roosevelt Island, and this year we decided to go to central park so the kids can take advantage of riding their scooters throughout the park. As long as we live close to the city I think this is a tradition we'll keep!
The hour drive into the city is so worth it! Especially when you find parking along the side of the park! We were so lucky!
Even though the sun hides behind the clouds and rain showers start creeping in spring is indeed a favorite season of mine. Like fall, it is a short season that lasts for just a couple of months! Although it was overcast the weather was perfect, and we found ourselves a little spot of our own at the park where we could crack cascarones on our heads, and just have fun without looking like fools. Then again...who cares if we do! We do this all in the name of fun!
The best part of this season is the opportunity we have to have fun as a family. Especially around the Easter season. Even if general conference didn't fall on the Easter Sabbath we still find ways to have fun while focusing on the Savior at the same time. We try to do the egg hunts, and fun activities days before Easter Sunday.
I hope Noah never grows out of having Easter egg hunts. Chelsea could have participated and she probably would have, but she thinks she's too old. She's probably right because she's 13, but she has a young heart, and instead she and Lexie helped hide the eggs, and will hint to Noah as to where they are hidden. He had so much fun finding the eggs, and looking inside for what "treats" were given.
We are so fortunate to live in a place where it is convenient to go to the city for a few hours, and just have fun. Chelsea and Noah both say that since it'll just be the two of them left in the house after Lexie leaves for college this fall, that it would be cheaper to live in New York with just two kids! Ummm...I don't think so, and I'm not so sure about that. Although we love everything about the city from the parks to the museums, broadway shows, art installations, soft pretzels, warm peanuts, hot dogs, Thai food, delicious sweets, ice cream, and pizza!! Kids would be all over that, and we'd probably be poor after doing said outings, and paying New York rent! Who knows.....
A dream thought I suppose, but I think they'll stick to dreaming for now, drive the hour in, and continue to have adventures in the city!
And this past week was filled with them!
Especially for this little guy!

Hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend!
