Because He Loves Us-My Thoughts On General Conference.

The other day Jon and I were talking about current events, and all that has been going on in the world, and how as parents we need to be better. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  we may think we are doing enough as parents, and in fellowshipping, but I know that as a mom, neighbor, friend, sister, wife, and person I can do more, and be better. I am so grateful for general conference because this years conference was extremely special, and seemingly exactly what we needed to hear as a family.
These problems, and catastrophes that are happening all over the world are only going to get worse, and regardless of our free agency it is up to us to work on our weaknesses in helping each other out to make the world a better place.

Conference is something that I look forward to every six months, and I've made a commitment to reflect back on past conferences in the Ensign magazine to remember. To remember the counsel, and guidance that our leaders have said. I feel strengthened when I reread certain talks, and in between those six months I strive to keep it locked within me so I don't forget 'how to be.'

But sometimes I forget.

I forget because life gets busy, and tend to focus on what is going on the world. There is so much chaos, and destruction going on in the world, and in some small way I find myself a bit guilty of that. Instead of complaining, and being upset I want to be praying more, and finding ways to use my hands, and feet to help out. No matter what religion we are we seem to forget about being kind, helpful, loving, and finding joy in our journey especially when it comes to violence being done in our country. Lately I've been having some pretty great adventures with my family, but sometimes that dark cloud comes lingering in causing issues to happen. For the most part life is pretty good, but we make the choice for it to be. Life happens, and I have matters that need to be taken care of too, but man do I strive to think of others, and call a loved one to take my mind off of the awful things. Whether it's comforting a family member due to mental illness, or a friend who needs me to vent to, or an issue within my own family. Life never ends, and it is up to me to make the best of every situation that comes my way.

Like I said, this particular conference was exactly what I needed to hear, and seeing my girls writing their heart out, and putting their thoughts on paper like there was no tomorrow was impressive. It showed me that they are interested, and mature. Mature to know that conference is something that is crucial in our lives. It definitely is a priority in my life, and as a family we know that it helps navigate through some pretty rough courses. How grateful I am for a loving prophet, and for his counselors who have an enormous heart of love that is constantly expressed to every kindred. My goal is to continue to read past conference talks so that I can always remember how to be.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Neil Anderson's talk in which I hope to remember forever! You can also read all the conference talks here.

“I bear my witness that God the Father lives and wants you to come home to Him. This is the true Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He knows you, He loves you, and He watches over you.”-President Henry B. Eyring
“I testify that when we embark upon or continue the incredible journey that leads to God, our lives will be better … and the Lord will use us in remarkable ways to bless those around us and bring about His eternal purposes.”-President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
“I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, including even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions.” -Russell M. Nelson
“I testify that the proclamation on the family is a statement of eternal truth, the will of the Lord for His children who seek eternal life.” -Elder Dallin H. Oaks
“We need to embrace God’s children compassionately and eliminate any prejudice, including racism, sexism, and nationalism.” -Elder Russell M. Ballard
I would also like to express my love to Elder Robert D. Hales. He passed away during the first session of conference this past Sunday. He will always be remembered by all the inspiring talks he gave throughout my 25 years of being a member. He truly was an amazing example, and did a marvelous work of being a great voice for the Lord!
